Stay focused Have a strong vision of your goal - an idea of where you want to go and how and when will you get there. Staying focused also means remaining open mind to new and innovative possibilities.
Network - It's true, the more business contacts you make, the greater the chances of expanding your network through grass-roots efforts and being successful. If you make a conscious effort to selectively exchange business cards with those contacts who can influence others, you soon will have a database full of prospective customers.
Consider outsourcing - Employing full time staff for every task is unlikely to be affordable for all businesses. Consider outsourcing jobs such a payroll, human resources, bookkeeping/accounting and other administrative functions.
Hiring takes preparation. Hiring full- or part-time employees means dealing with payroll and benefits. Handle these functions in house or outsource?
Do your homework. Before you hire anyone, familiarize yourself with your state's employment laws and with regional zoning laws.
Define your compensation package. Determine what you can afford to pay each employee and what benefits you can offer.
Cover your assets. Make sure your insurance policy includes workers’ compensation as well as any other liability to which you may be open. Consult with an insurance agent or broker before employees begin work.
Create an employee handbook. Your handbook or operations manual should include policies on sick days, hours, and performance expectations. It should also include job titles and descriptions, rules and procedures.
